About Boltswitch
Boltswitch, Inc., based in Crystal Lake, IL is the North American leader in fusible bolted pressure contact switches and fusible pullout switches. Since our first switch pole was filed out in 1953, we have continually contributed to the science of switch building.
Our original 400 amp switch was built as an alternative to outmoded knife switches and breakers which have limited interrupting capability. The switch performed exceptionally well in tests and led us right into 600, 800 and 1200 amp and the 30 through 200 amp sizes.
Our small switches outperformed any switch on the market, and their proven principals were then applied to larger ampacities. We were the first with Quick-Make, Quick-Break operators on all sizes of switches through 4000 amps. We were the first to pass the UL977 Fused Power-Circuit Device tests and first to have a UL listed switch marked as to its suitability for use on circuits having high available fault currents.
Boltswitch has invested an extraordinary amount of time, money and thought in our design and test programs, and the switches we produce are unique, in the true sense of the word.

The Boltswitch proven principals were applied to larger ampacity switches and Boltswitch was the first with Quick-Make, Quick-Break operators on all sizes of switches through 4000 amperes. This feature is offered on many of the products offered. The Quick-Make & Quick-Break design, tease-proof operators, ensure that the switches have the capability to provide the utmost performace and safety for the user and the installation.
Pullout switches are evaluated and tested as load break switches. Make and break testing is required on circuits with currents at 100%, 150% and 600% of the nameplate rating. This testing is performed with dummy fuses installed in the pullout switch, since live fuses can open under these current levels

Bolted Pressure Contacts Switches
Boltswitch bolted pressure contact switches are designed to run cooler and more efficiently than knife or butt contact switches. The clamping action provided by this type of switch results in high withstand capabilities along with the current carrying efficiency of a bolted buss connection.
